Coleman Hawkins is regarded as the founder of one of the two great tenor saxophone schools. While the style of his counterpart Lester Young was cool, concise and reflective, Hawkins stood for passionate and exuberant playing. Bob Thiele brought the veteran into the studio in 1962 for Impulse! Records in 1962 to record a fine mixture of up-tempo numbers and ballads, older and more contemporary pieces for “Today And Now”.
