Tenor saxophonist and multi-instrumentalist Pharoa Sanders' experimental 1985 album "Shukuru" at times recalls the John Coltrane of the late '50s. Singer Leon Thomas, who sang Sanders' classic "The Creator Has a Masterplan," among others, joins the band again for the good-humored "Mas In Brooklyn" and the stunning "Sun Song." Other accompanists include William Henderson on keyboards, Ray Drummond on bass and Idris Muhammad on drums.
