Smokey late night jazz tango from a duo of Finnish vocalist Tuija Komi and Moldovan accordionist Vlad Cojocaru. Finnish tangos form part of the songs but this program, which includes compositions by Argentinians like Astor Piazzolla or Carlos Gardel as well as by North Americans like Henry Mancini and Stevie Wonder, and even a pop song by Josef Rixner and a classic bossa nova by Joao Antonio Carlos Jobim. Tuija Komi sings the songs with a silky timbre and enchanting presence. She makes the songs grow and whisper, coo and ensnare ear and mood. She has with Vlad Cojocaru an experienced accordionist on her side who masters the shimmering between the planes of seriousness and entertainment. Born in Moldavia he brings a good portion of fiery temper out of the Southeastern European tradition to the music mixing it with wit and precision with the Tango feelings slumbering in the songs.
