This 2LP-set from Vinyl Passion gathers the two essential Miles Davis albums Birth Of The Cool (1957) and 'Round About Midnight (1956) together in one unprecedented vinyl collection.

Culled from three separate nonet sessions that took place from early 1949 through March of 1950, Birth Of The Cool was the literal blue print for the sound known as cool jazz thus its title. Featuring the fluidity of bop, innovative big band arrangements and a relaxed overall elegance, the Gil Evans arranged sessions find Davis supported by pivotal performances from such jazz luminaries as Kai Winding, Gerry Mulligan, Lee Konitz and Max Roach among others. Despite such a large band, the proceedings sound remarkably intimate with concise and sophisticated songs built largely on tone and mood. A seminal recording in the history of jazz!

Widely acknowledged by jazz critics and aficionados as a landmark in 'hard bop' and one of the greatest jazz albums of all-time, Miles' 1956 Columbia Records debut, 'Round About Midnight showcased his first legendary quintet featuring John Coltrane, Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones. The music here ranges from the sublime Cole Porter standard "All Of You" with Davis employing the Harmon mute sound, to the restrained bop of "Ah-Leu-Cha" which features a Dixieland counterpoint at beginning and end, to the Paul Chambers bass showcase of "Dear Old Stockholm" and the universally loved "'Round Midnight."
