The White Birch was a Norwegian trio. The name comes from the 1994 album The White Birch by the band Codeine, one of the cornerstones of slowcore. They are sometimes called the "Norwegian Sigur Rós."The trio was composed of Ola Fløttum, Hans Christian Almendingen and Ulf Rogde. They played together for 10 years, releasing 5 albums. After a nine year hiatus the band played a last show in 2006 Ola Fløttum will release the album "The Weight Of Spring" in March 2015.

In 2002 The White Birch released their masterpiece Star Is Just A Sun on Glitterhouse Records. It was a mystical album, quiet and fluent - channeling John Cale, Nick Drake and Godspeed You Black Emperor.

Now White Birch become Ola Flottum with the classically educated composer Ole-Henrik Moe playing the violin, the viola and the singing saw. Beside him there's Pal Hausken a Norwegian Academy of music graduate (rhythm section) and Moren Barrikmo who like Hausken is a member of Susanna Wallumrod‘s (vocals with The Hours) Magical Orchestra.
