Swans’ Live Rope captures material performed across their 2023–24 US and European tours, offering a direct link to the ideas later developed on Birthing. Stretching close to three hours, it moves from slow, trance-like passages into towering, full-band intensity, shaped by Michael Gira’s commanding vocals and a core group of longtime collaborators on lap steel, bass, Mellotron and percussion.

Rather than a retrospective, Live Rope documents a band in transition, refining themes in real time and pushing them toward their eventual studio form. As Gira puts it, the performances are driven by total commitment and a singular focus on pursuing meaning through sound.
