Nine Lessons in Listening comprises nine sound sculptures composed with field recordings and found sounds from one of the world’s northernmost settlements. Using sound collage and the fundamentals of musique concrète, the result is part sonic fiction, part soundscape — or perhaps a soundtrack to daily life in a remote fishing village, 40 km from the Arctic Circle.

Inspired by the soundwalks of Hildegard Westerkamp, the acoustic ecology studies of Bernie Krause, and the Kankyō Ongaku approach to music, this album aims to broaden the listener’s acoustic horizon by centering the captivating world of sound.

Sometimes elusive, sometimes all-enveloping and sometimes wholly unexpected, sound becomes a framework for observing the world and active, deep listening becomes a tool for better understanding it.

Enjoy with headphones for deep listening, or speakers for immersive soundtracking.
