"Diamonds And Rust in the Bullring" was originally released only in small edition on vinyl, but this wonderful recording with fantastic sound deserves the remastering that Kevin Gray has now done for Analogue Productions. Joan Baez sang a concert in the bullring ('Bullring) of the Basque city of Bilbao in 1988 that has nothing to do with her 1975 release "Diamonds And Rust." In Bilbao she sang a mixture of English and Spanish titles that delighted the audience.

The first part of the recording consists of well-known hits by friendly artists, such as the audiophile classic Famous Blue Raincoat by Leonard Cohen. In the second half, she performs songs in Spanish, including a rendition of Sting's 'They Dance Alone (Gueca Solo),' called here "Ellas Danzan Solas." However, Baez's version of "Txoria Txori," a Basque folk song, is particularly moving, with the audience singing along as if in unison. Her duet with Mercedes Sosa, "Diamonds & Rust," is also one of the album's highlights.
