Birthing is the seventeenth studio album from American experimental rock godheads Swans. Developed over a particularly lengthy and punishing period on tour in 2023 and 2024, these songs are already road-tested and battle hardened, honed through improvisation and repetition. They also represent a potentially valedictorian artistic statement from the band’s leader Michael Gira, who has hinted that this will be the final album in Swans’ current iteration - and potentially, their last ever.
